Mike Keys Announces Candidacy for Clinton Township Treasurer


Clinton Township – April 23, 2024 Mike Keys, currently serving as an elected Trustee of Clinton Township, has formally announced his candidacy for the position of Clinton Township Treasurer. Keys’ professional experience includes working for Congressman Sander Levin, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and, currently, the Oakland County Board of Commissioners as a senior financial analyst. 

Keys enters the race with a strong background in fiscal analysis, budgetary management and an unrivaled dedication to community service. With professional experience in fiduciary oversight and formal education in finance, Keys is well-positioned to bring dynamic leadership to the role of Township Treasurer.

During his tenure as a Clinton Township Trustee, Keys has been a proactive advocate for transparency, fiscal responsibility and equitable development projects. He has served on various committees, including the Diversity Committee, Conservation Committee, and Election Commission, demonstrating his commitment to addressing diverse community needs. Moreover, his efforts in spearheading park improvement projects at Prince Drewry Park underscore his dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Township residents.

The position of Township Treasurer carries significant responsibilities, including tax collection, investment strategies and policy-making as a voting member of the Township Board. Keys is well qualified to take on these challenges because of his educational and local government finance background, along with unwavering commitment to his community. He possesses a Bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and has nine years of extensive experience in government administration and financial analysis.

Keys’ professional experience includes scrutiny of multi-million dollar budgets and analysis of governmental contracts and policies. He is also an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association of Michigan and is earning certifications through this professional organization. His responsibilities have included recommending policy action to the governing body of retirement and pension systems and his financial analysis and suggestions have resulted in legislative action with widespread effect and savings to taxpayers.

If elected Treasurer, Keys pledges to diligently manage township funds, maintain accurate records, and implement sound cash management procedures. Furthermore, he is committed to fostering strong relationships with nonprofits, businesses, and financial institutions, including banks, mortgage companies and investment firms, to ensure the financial health and prosperity of Clinton Township and the appropriate use of taxpayers’ dollars.

“I am deeply committed to serving the residents of Clinton Township and ensuring responsible stewardship of our township’s finances,” said Keys. “If elected as Township Treasurer, I will work tirelessly to uphold the highest standards of fiscal integrity and transparency while advocating for the diverse needs of our community.”
